SPORTS

GOLF

Maryland offers golfers over 200 public, private and semi-private courses. The quality of Maryland golf courses has attracted several professional events, as well as amateur championships.

From 2007 through 2009, the AT&T National tournament was held at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda (Montgomery County). Hosted by the world's top-ranked player, Tiger Woods, this PGA Tour event is held in early July. Future tournaments at Congressional Country Club include the 2011 men's U.S. Open.

From 2005 through 2009, the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Championship was held in Havre de Grace (Harford County) at the Bulle Rock Golf Club. The tournament is one of four majors on the LPGA Tour.

Baltimore Country Club in Timonium (Baltimore County) hosted the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship. In 2010, it moves to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac (Montgomery County). This tournament is one of five major championships on the PGA Champions Tour.

The University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park (Prince George's County) is the site of the 2010 Melwood Prince George's County Open. A stop on the Nationwide Tour, the tournament will be held from June 3 to 6, 2010. From 2007 through 2009, the tournament was played at The Country Club at Woodmoore in Mitchellville.
