The Commission consists of seven members appointed to five-year terms by the Board of County Commissioners (Code 1957, Art. 66B, secs. 3.01-3.09; County Code, sec. 172-1).

AGRICULTURAL PRESERVATION ADVISORY BOARD
The Agricultural Preservation Advisory Board advises the Board of County Commissioners on the establishment of agricultural districts and the approval of purchases of easements within the County by the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation.
The Historic District Commission was established to assist the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners in preventing the destruction or encroachment upon historic sites and areas within St. Mary's County (County Code, secs. 162-1 through 162-3).
Appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, the Land Use Board shall consists of fifteen members who serve terms ranging from one to four years (County Code, secs. 165-1 through 165-4).
The Planning Commission makes and approves plans they recommend to the Board of County Commissioners for adoption.
